ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus spotted busking in metro station as gobsmacked fans look on

ABBA star Bjorn Ulvaeus left fans wondering if he had run out of “money, money, money” when he was spotted busking.

Commuters were stunned to see the chart-topping Swede playing guitar in a tube station.

The 76-year-old singer-songwriter even had a begging bowl for passersby to donate cash and a stack of CDs for sale.

However, Bjorn – who is said to be worth £100 million and whose band ABBA have sold more than 400 million records – has not fallen on hard times.

He dressed up as a cowboy and filmed a spoof video at the metro station in Stockholm for a special reason.

The musician wanted to surprise one of his old friends and Swedish singer Tomas Ledin for his 70th birthday gala.

Bjorn re-wrote one of his old Swedish songs from the 1970s called Hej Gamle Man and turned into a country ditty called Hey Grand Ol’ Man.

And he made a video to go with the track which not only sees him busking but also doing a spot of line dancing too.

The lyrics are very tongue-in-cheek – coming from a man who announced last week that he had split from his wife Lena after 41 years

The former couple left fans around the world shocked with their announcement, as many were not expecting the breakup.

Bjorn and Lena released a joint statement regarding their split last week, which read: “After many wonderful and eventful years, we have decided to go our separate ways.

“We remain close friends and will continue to celebrate our grandchildren’s birthdays and other family holidays together.”

The lyrics of Bjorn’s new single provide details of how aging men no longer attract women and include the lines: “The time has come for you to learn that girls don’t see old men. And once you have gone invisible, you’re never seen again.”

ABBA, of course, have raked in more money after releasing a new album Voyage last year as well as launching an avatar stage show due to open in London in May.
