The 47-year-old host took to Twitter to share her outrage that a long-running and much-loved programme will come to an end in April.
Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode have presented their Radio 5 Live Film Review show for an incredible two decades – on the same radio station Naga hosts her own show.
The pair announced in view of their 174,000 social media followers: “Simon Mayo has announced that Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review is coming to an end on @bbc5live. The last show will be on April 1st.”
A statement put out by the duo added: “21 years is a long time to be clogging up the schedules.
“We – and no one else – have decided to step away… to withdraw… to spread our wings… to exit, pursued by a bear.”
Simon Mayo also told his listeners of the news live on the programme on Friday (March 11), adding: “Anyway, we are way too expensive, and there are much better things for the BBC to be spending their money on.
“Also, keeping Mark in big microphones, large chairs and bottomless coffee is pricey enough, so April 1st will be our last show on 5 Live.”
It soon became clear that their radio colleague Naga hadn’t taken the news so well, as she quoted the post on Twitter and wrote: “NO!!!!” – tagging the radio station into the post to make sure bosses could see.
Fans soon swarmed to Naga’s account to echo the news, with one writing: “Totally agree Naga.”
“I get the feeling it will carry on in a different guise,” another suggested, while a third devastated fan echoed: “I’m really hoping they are moving to another channel or just a podcast.”
Others hopefully suggested it could even be an early April Fool’s Day prank – as it seemed fishy the show would come to an end on April 1st.
Mayo and Kermode’s show began back in 2001, and sees the duo break down the week’s top ten films and reviewing them – along with featuring pre-recorded interviews with movie stars.
The show even scooped a Gold Sony Radio Award in the Speech Award category back in May 2009.
