McFly bass guitarist Dougie Poynter has split from his partner Maddy Elmer after dating for three years.
The 34-year-old musician started dating model Maddy in 2018 but the couple were first linked in 2019 when they were seen kissing publically during a day out in London.
When discussing his relationship with Maddy last year September, Dougie still appeared positive when asked whether she was the one.
Speaking candidly he said: “I hope so. She is ace. We are very, very happy.”
Things seemed to be going well as they later moved in together in November with Dougie admitting that he had hoped to start a family in the future.
Despite this, a close source has now confirmed that the pair have decided to go their separate ways and the decision was a mutual one.
Speaking to The Sun, the source said: “Maddy and Dougie seemed to be a great match. They had a lot in common, including their passion for unusual animals, like insects and reptiles.
“But like a lot of couples they found lockdown very hard and they decided to split last year.”
The insider added: “It was a very upsetting time for both of them, but the decision was mutual.”
Daily Star has contacted Dougie’s reps for comment.
Shine A Light singer Dougie seemed to be head over his heels with Maddy when they first met as he abruptly whisked her away on holiday in April 2019.
By the next month, the former couple traveled to California where they enjoyed another luxurious break.
However, it soon came to light that Dougie and Maddy already knew each other from before.
A source said at the time: “Dougie and Maddy have known each other for a while and properly hit it off at the end of last year.
“He’s had some downtime over the past few months and they’ve grown close.
“Dougie took her on holiday at the end of April and the beginning of May and she was introduced to his McBusted bandmate James Bourne.”
In 2020, Storm model Maddy supported her partner when it came to light that he had previously taken Valium after McFly’s break-up in 2016.
Opening up about his recovery Dougie said: “It needs to be controlled because it’s such a slow process.”
