The body of a man has been recovered from floodwaters at Coaldale, north of Grafton in New South Wales.

Police were contacted on Thursday night after reports a 72-year-old man had gone missing in flood water on Coaldale Road.

Police then located the body of a man within the hour, a short distance away.

While he is yet to be formally identified, police said it is believed the body is that of the missing man.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
