Oregon man will get life sentence for Portland taking pictures dying

PORTLAND — A Portland man who killed one other man and wounded two others in a taking pictures as folks left a live performance at an indoor enviornment in Portland has been sentenced to life in jail.

Robert Jay James, 39, acquired the sentence Friday in Multnomah County Circuit Court and should serve 30 years earlier than he’s eligible for parole.

James opened hearth at a passing Dodge Durango from a couple of toes away within the October 2018 taking pictures close to the Moda Center as folks left a live performance.

James contended he noticed somebody within the Durango with a gun and fired in self-defense. But Circuit Judge Kathleen M. Dailey mentioned James fired on the automobile because it drove away, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported.

“Even if what you were saying was true, at some time, in that whole thing it stopped being true,” she mentioned. “You can’t be shooting at an exiting vehicle and keep shooting, shooting, shooting and expect that to be self-defense.”

Markell Devon Jones, 44, was shot within the head, chest, proper arm and neck. He died shortly after at a hospital. The automobile driver was hit in the best higher arm, and a younger lady two blocks away was hit within the neck with a bullet fragment.
