Police shooting closes Highway 9 in Clearview area

A state trooper reportedly returned fire at a gunman Monday night. The highway was closed between 176th and 180th streets SW.

CLEARVIEW — A man fired at a state trooper who returned fire Monday night, closing Highway 9 between 176th and 180th streets SE and prompting an investigation, according to initial reports.

KIRO 7 reported the man shot at a Washington State Patrol trooper who pulled him over Monday night. The trooper returned fire and hit the man, according to KIRO 7.

The man remained in a vehicle. Officers tried to get him to surrender.

The highway remained closed as of the Tuesday morning commute.

Typically, the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, a cadre of detectives known as SMART, investigates police use of force incidents in the county.

As of Tuesday morning, no official report on the incident had been released.
