Road employee struck by trooper’s car, critically injured – The Suffolk Information-Herald

A street employee was critically injured Friday morning when struck by a state trooper’s car on Route 58 at Wilroy Road.

According to a Virginia State Police information launch, a “male pedestrian” was establishing signage simply after 7 a.m. for upcoming work in and across the roadway and “began walking across Route 58, causing traffic to come to a sudden stop.”

A state trooper in an unmarked car braked quickly and swerved into the median, “in an attempt to avoid the other vehicles that had suddenly stopped,” the information launch stated. “When the patrol car went into the median, it collided with the male pedestrian.”

The sufferer was transported to Norfolk Sentara Hospital with critical accidents. The trooper was not injured.

The Virginia State Police Chesapeake Division Crash Reconstruction staff responded to the scene to help with the investigation.
