Spiderman hunk Andrew Garfield told he ‘wasn’t handsome enough’ to be in Narnia films


Hollywood actor and Spiderman star Andrew Garfield has revealed that he was told he was not considered ‘handsome enough’ to play the role of Prince Caspian in the Narnia films.

Speaking on Entertainment Tonight, Andrew said that he was ‘desperate’ to get the role of Prince Caspian in the 2007 film, and that the choice was between him and Shadow and Bone actor Ben Barnes.

He said: “I remember I was so desperate. I auditioned for Prince Caspian in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ and I thought, ‘This could be it, this could be it.

“And that handsome, brilliant actor Ben Barnes ended up getting the role. I think it was down to me and him, and I remember I was obsessed.”

After Ben Barnes was offered the role of Prince Caspian, Andrew then called his agent and asked why he was not considered for the part.

It is then reported that Andrew was told that he was not considered ‘handsome enough’ for the part.

The actor said he asked his agent: “Why not me?”

Andrew then added: “She eventually just broke under my incessant nagging and she was like, ‘It’s because they don’t think you’re handsome enough, Andrew.”

However, Andrew has revealed that there are no hard feelings and praised Ben Barnes for his performance as Prince Caspian in the second Narnia film, which was named after the fictional character.

“Ben Barnes is a very handsome, talented man,” said Andrew, adding: “So in retrospect, I’m not unhappy with the decision and I think he did a beautiful job.”

Ben Barnes has since gone on to appear in hit Netflix series Shadow and Bone, as well as TV programme Westworld and films including The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Andrew Garfield has also gone on to have an award winning career of his own too, starring in films such as The Social Network, The Amazing Spiderman and The Other Boleyn Girl.

After rising to fame as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spiderman, he has delighted fans by reprising the role alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire in the blockbuster Marvel film, Spiderman: No Way Home.

The three time Academy Award nominated actor also recently won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical, for his performance in Tick, Tick…Boom.
