Sometimes we get so busy and stressed that we get disconnected from our needs and wants, says Judy, noting that we forget to eat, and drink. “And tell ourselves we’ll go to the bathroom later. We promise ourselves we’ll get a good night’s sleep on the weekend. And then we wonder why we have recurring health issues, can’t concentrate on our work and, when we do eventually give ourselves permission to have a snack, eat everything in sight.”
She asserts that your body is talking to you all the time. “It tells you when you are tired, hungry, thirsty, angry, stressed… It asks you to look after it and yourself better. All you need to do is listen.” Below, she offers some practical tips, life-changing tips.
It helps to ask these 3 questions:
- What am I feeling?
- Why do I feel this way?
- What can I do about it?
You may be feeling hungry because you didn’t eat breakfast and it is now way past lunchtime: have something to eat.
You may be feeling headachy because you haven’t had any water today and are dehydrated: drink some water.
Maybe you’re feeling hot because you’re still wearing the jersey you put on this morning when it was still cool: take it off!
You may be feeling fuzzy-headed because you’ve been in your air-conditioned, artificially-lit office all day: open a window or, even better, go for a walk outside in the fresh air.
This exercise is quick, it’s easy and it will change your day (and your life).
