WA pledges millions in Red Cross flood appeal

“As our great country emerges from this tragedy, let’s come together to be a source of hope and a force for good.”

The line-up includes Tones And I, Jimmy Barnes, Delta Goodrem, Jon Stevens, Missy Higgins, Jessica Mauboy, Vanessa Amorosi, Hunters and Collectors, Guy Sebastian, Kate Miller-Heidke, The Living End, Casey Donovan and Sheppard.

Channel 9’s Scott Cam, Sylvia Jeffreys, Andy Lee and Peter Overton, Channel 7’s Natalie Barr, David Koch, Sonia Kruger and Mark Ferguson and 10’s Carrie Bickmore, Chris Brown, Amanda Keller and Osher Günsberg are confirmed as part of the hosting ensemble.

The event can also be watched online, at 9Now, 7Plus and 10Play.

Australian Red Cross CEO Kym Pfitzner said he was hopeful the event would be an “enormous success.”

“We will be able to give everything we raise. Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected by these floods, and the need for assistance can’t be over-estimated,” he said.

“Red Cross is grateful for the efforts of Channels 9, 7 and 10, who are coming together in a television first to unite the nation to support those impacted by the floods through a night of musical entertainment from Australian stars.”

Funds raised through the telethon will support two types of cash grants.

  • Bereavement grants to support senior next-of-kin of those who died as a direct result of the floods with immediate needs.
  • Cash grants to help with basic needs such as food, clothing or personal items for people whose principal place of residence was impacted by the floods and who are experiencing financial hardship as a result.

Grant applications will open on 18 March.

“The damage is immense and widespread, and it’s going to take a long time to recover,” Mr Pfitzner said.

The Australian Red Cross has already launched an appeal to help the people and communities affected by the floods. You can donate now at or call 1800 733 276.
