This just in: E! Entertainment Television has announced that Zimbabwean comedian, content creator and TikTok sensation Tyra Chikocho (AKA Madam Boss), has been voted by the public as African Social Star of 2021 at this year’s People’s Choice Awards.
Tyra is currently the star of the Nollywood series The Offspring, and was also recently cast in the South African show uBettina Wethu on SABC1.
She is hot on the African continent right now as the brand ambassador for RwandaAir and winning multiple digital and entrepreneurial awards in Zimbabwe. Her TikTok video of herself dancing to Brenda Fassie’s “Vulindlela” clocked up over 2-million views.
Kenya’s Azziad Nasenya and South Africa’s Witney Ramabulana were placed second and third for the award respectively.
Between 27 October and 17 November 2021, fans had the opportunity to vote in 40 categories across TV, music, movies and pop culture – and, for only the third year running, the awards dedicated an entire category to Africa’s incredible social media stars and influencers.
Other nominees in the category include South African media personalities Lasizwe Dambuza, Mihlali Ndamase, plus actress, model and businesswoman Boitumelo “Boity” Thulo.
However, South Africans still have much to celebrate as TikTok trailblazer Witney Ramabulana came in second for the African Social Star Award after Tyra.

On receiving the award, she said: “Oh oh oh oh oh I am just a girl from Madziva. We did it.
Thank you MadamBoss fans for voting for me woooow I can’t believe this.”
